Don't you love a good makeover story? Recently, my sweet college friend Julie moved into a new home. The space was great but the bathrooms were outdated and needed a little love. She would tell you I helped her, but really it was just an excuse for us to get together - she has excellent taste and did most of the work herself!
Here's a peek of her master bath "before." Again, excellent space but the lovely cobalt blue tile counter and brass hardware had to go.
And here's the "after"! The space is so much more bright and fresh, don't you think? The only "major" changes made to the space were opening up the shower and raising the ceiling. Everything else is strictly cosmetic - new marble floors, counters and white subway tile from DalTile; Kohler undermount sinks; chrome faucets from Price Phister; and mirrors from Z Gallerie. The elegant lighting is from Porter Lighting in Dallas; Paint color is "Ballet Slipper" from Benjamin Moore.
This is a "before" photo of their hallway bath. Again, it's just stuck in the 1980s and needed a facelift.
I love this photo. What a difference! They replaced the white tile counter and floor with white Carrera Marble from DalTile. The shower (which you can't see in the photo) is refinished in white Subway tile and the custom shower curtain was raised all the way to the ceiling. The real showstopper in my opinion is the grasscloth wallpaper which was sealed to be water resistant. The cabinet over the toilet was also removed to give the illusion of a larger space. Pretty lighting from Currey & Company, and mirrors are from Porter Lighting.
This project is proof that you can completely transform your space simply by making cosmetic changes. Julie didn't knock out any walls or even replace cabinets. But the bathrooms are gorgeous and look brand new!
